If you’re a Snap Fitness member, you know that fitness and wellbeing are so much more than just working out in the gym a few times a week. It’s also about developing healthy, sustainable habits, taking the proper steps towards keeping yourself healthy, while engaging with and encouraging your community to do the same.
This October, in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, our Fitness With Impact campaign is dedicated to raising awareness about the important role exercise plays in preventing and combating cancer. We also want to highlight the importance of early detection of breast cancer and share meaningful ways you can make an impact during this important month.
The Power of Exercise
The beneficial link between exercise and cancer prevention and treatment has only strengthened with continued research and, what’s more, everyone can reap the benefits—whether you’ve been diagnosed and are receiving treatment, in remission, or currently cancer-free!
Research has shown that exercise can help lower your risk of developing breast cancer, reduce your risk of recurrence, and alleviate treatment side effects, in addition to maintaining healthier, stronger, and more mobile muscles and bones, thereby improving overall quality of life.

Early Detection
One of the most important messages during Breast Cancer Awareness Month is this: early detection matters. When breast cancer is found early, treatment is often more effective. Here are three methods you can use to detect breast cancer early on:
Mammography
Odds are you’ve heard the word “mammogram,” but what actually is it? Mammograms are a type of X-ray that can help detect breast cancer before symptoms develop. Many healthcare providers recommend regular mammography screenings beginning in your 40s, though guidelines may vary. Talk with your doctor to learn what’s best for you.
Self-Exams
While self-exams don’t replace clinical screenings, being familiar with how your breasts normally look and feel can help you notice changes early. If you find anything unusual, schedule a check-up with your healthcare provider.
Breast Lumps & Other Signs
A new lump is the most commonly reported symptom, but not the only one. Changes in size, shape, skin texture, or nipple discharge can also be signs. The key is to pay attention and seek medical advice if you notice something different.
Remember: only a medical professional can provide diagnosis or treatment recommendations. Awareness helps start the conversation, but expert care is essential.
How You Can Make an Impact
Here are some meaningful ways to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month, especially when you’re in the gym!
