This August, Snap Fitness clubs across New Zealand are stepping up (literally) for Blood Cancer New Zealand. Jump on the stepper at your local gym, complete 1,103 steps, and help fundraise for the 8 New Zealanders diagnosed with blood cancer every day. It's free to take part, open to members and non-members, and every donation counts toward your club's total in a nationwide fundraising competition.

What Is the Step Up Challenge?

The Step Up Challenge is a New Zealand-wide fundraiser for Blood Cancer New Zealand, running throughout August at Snap Fitness clubs nationwide. It's inspired by the Sky Tower Stair Challenge, where participants climb Auckland's Sky Tower, 51 flights and 1,103 steps, on 2 August. Snap Fitness clubs are replicating that same 1,103-step challenge in-club, on the stepper, all month long.

Every step you take and every dollar you raise goes toward supporting Kiwis affected by blood cancer, and your club is competing to become the top fundraising Snap Fitness club in the country.

How to Take On the Challenge

Getting involved takes four simple steps:

  1. Donate. Head to your club's fundraising page and make a donation (look out for the QR code at your gym).

  2. Step up. Jump on the designated stepper and complete 1,103 steps.

  3. Snap your proof. Take a photo of your donation confirmation and a photo of the stepper screen showing your time and total steps.

  4. Send it in. Pass both photos to your club team so your result gets recorded.

Want to raise even more? Set up your own fundraising page and share it with friends, family and workmates. The more people you reach, the bigger the impact for Blood Cancer New Zealand.

What Can You Win?

While this challenge is about community and cause, there's a bit of friendly competition too. The fastest male and fastest female to complete all 1,103 steps nationwide will each take home a $500 travel voucher. You can attempt the challenge more than once throughout August, but each official attempt needs a donation behind it to count.

Step Up Challenge FAQs

Do I need to be a Snap Fitness member to take part? No. Non-members are welcome to join in during staffed hours at their local club, following the usual guest procedures.

Is there a minimum age? Yes, participants must be 16 or older. Non-members aged 16 or 17 will need a parent or guardian to sign off before taking part.

Do I have to donate to participate? A donation is what makes your attempt official and eligible for prizes, but every step still supports your club's overall fundraising effort even if you're just having a go.

What if I don't finish all 1,103 steps? That's okay. Every attempt contributes to your club's participation and fundraising. Only participants who complete the full 1,103 steps are eligible for the fastest-time prizes.

When does fundraising close? Fundraising stays open all August and wraps up on 31 August.

Step Up for a Cause That Matters

This challenge is about more than the stepper. It's a chance to move as a community, welcome new faces into your gym, and raise real funds for Kiwis affected by blood cancer. Every step adds up, and every dollar helps.
