Is Myzone Worth It? Hear Directly From The Experts!

Snap Fitness

We’ve talked a lot about Myzone lately and all the benefits around heart rate training. We’ve heard from members and personal trainers, but what about those who live and breathe Myzone every day? We got a chance to sit down with the CEO of Myzone, Emmett Williams, to find out more about the inspiration for the creation of Myzone, what makes it unique, and getting down to the “heart” of the matter regarding why members should invest in their health!

<h2> The Low-Down on Myzone

The main focus on the development of Myzone was motivation. “Myzone was designed to create motivation to put in the effort to get the fitness results you want,” Williams says. We all know that there are two types of people: those are are naturally motivated, and those that aren’t. Both are amazing in their own unique ways, but those that are naturally motivated would putting joining a gym or working out at the top of their priority list. The rest of us would probably put it underneath “find local pizza joint” (well not specifically, but you get the idea). For those that are not intrinsically motivated, earning rewards, getting feedback in real time, and having a sense of achievement is going to be powerful in making exercise a priority. This is where Myzone comes in.

<h2> Feel Good about Working Out!

The biggest obstacle to overcome when it comes to physical activity is a mental one; getting ourselves up to go to the gym is way harder than anything we do while working out. Myzone is bridging that gap by making people feel good about exercise. When you receive an award after your Monday night workout, that Wednesday night workout is suddenly motivating you in a positive way! This helps take away the negative feelings that can be associated with working out and help instill a positive routine that leads to results.

There’s a saying, “you’re only one workout away from a good mood!” Myzone is helping you to not only get to that good mood, but maintain it!

<h2> What Makes Myzone the Most Unique?

“The point system is the most unique,” Williams says. “The FitBit or the Apple Watch measure things like calories and steps, but calorie burn is unique to each person’s body type, and the 10,000 steps thing is not as relevant as it used to be.” In fact, here’s an interesting piece of trivia: the 10,000 steps a day recommendation came from a study done back in the 1960’s in Japan declaring that 10,000 steps a day will help you live longer. However, the World Health Organization and the Center for Disease Control have declared that improved health does not directly correlate to the number of steps you get in a day. Rather that you should be getting approximately 150 minutes of moderate exercise or 75 minutes of vigorous exercise in a week, or a combination of the two.

Myzone Effort Points, or MEPs, are designed to put everyone one a level playing field, and to help you reach a certain number of effort-based points each month as opposed to a number of steps or calories, that may not have the same results for everyone. Each point is earned based on the effort put into each workout, which is not something other devices take into account.

This means that people of all fitness levels can work out together, and though seeing different results, can reach the same MEPs goal! Everyone can compete, everyone can work out together, and your fitness community will continue to grow.

<h2> Myzone Gym Owners/Personal Trainers

What is one of the main focuses of gym owners and operators? To engage with a member, recognize the goal they are trying to reach, and find a way to help them achieve it. Whether it’s weight loss, lower blood pressure, more energy, or anything in between, everyone has a different goal that you are there to help them pursue. What we all have in common is that we need to put the work in- a gym membership is not buying a magical pill, rather it’s taking on a long term lifestyle choice.

“Myzone is an opportunity for gym members and trainers to engage on a more personal level with their members and prevent turnover,” Williams says. “Myzone is a particularly great tool for personal trainers. It’s not a replacement of a professional, it’s an augmentation of their services. It allows trainers to keep track of your progress during each session and in between sessions. It keeps members on track to reach their goals even when the trainer isn’t around!”

For those of us who may not work as hard in between sessions with our personal trainers, Myzone is here to keep us in check!
