Which Should I Tackle First: Lifting or Running
Strength training and cardio are important parts of any training program. Achieving both in the same session is an effective way to build strength and endurance: however, there can be drawbacks. Although the question of “which first” seems simple, the answer isn’t and depends upon your overall goals.
If your goal is to lose weight, you’ll take a different approach to working out than someone who is training for an obstacle race. The same goes for someone who is looking to maintain a general amount of fitness and someone who is training for a specific type of event.
If you’re looking to burn fat and build muscle, lifting weights first is your best option. By completing strength training routine before cardio exercise, you’ll have more energy to perform more reps or use a higher weight.
If you’re training for a run or simply want to increase your endurance, you’ll want to tackle cardio first. By putting more energy and focus into your cardio workout, you’ll reap the benefits.
No matter what you complete first, remember that working out is better than nothing! If you’re looking for an answer that aligns with your fitness goals, reach out to a personal trainer at your local Snap Fitness. They will be happy to design a program just for you!
