#SNAPNATION Appreciation: Les and Mary Mountz
Douglassville Club members join the Snap Family!
The month of March is dedicated to #SNAPNATION Appreciation. We love our members and would be nowhere without them. Throughout the month we will be sharing different stories highlighting how our members inspire us each day. Our very first Member Spotlight as new owners of Snap Fitness-Douglassville are Les Mountz and his late wife, Mary.
Les and Mary joined #SNAPNATION in 2011. Mary wanted Les to keep up with his physical activity after he had hip replacements. Mary had no intention of joining herself, but she was convinced by the previous owner, John Stockton, to give it a try.
Another member of the Douglassville gym won a contest and graciously gifted her My Zone Belt prize to Les. Little did she or the rest of the club realize how seriously Les would take this belt. Les is number 1 on the Douglassville My Zone Leaderboard every month for obtaining the most MEP’s (My Zone Effort Points). Points are earned according to the percentage of your heart rate levels during the time of physical exercise. In December 2020, Les earned 26,364 MEP’s—blowing the rest of the club out of the water. He puts in 2 hours a day onther ARC Trainer and then walks his dog 3.5 miles afterward. What an inspiration!
Mary started loving the gym almost immediately. She would put in her time on the ARC Trainer and then move around the gym partaking in other exercises. Wherever she was, she would strike up a conversation with other gym members around her. She was known for her kindness, intelligence, quick wit, friendliness, and so much more. Since her passing, we have had the opportunity to learn even more about her. She loved animals and was known for taking in Irish Setter rescues. She also enjoyed photography, NASCAR racing, golf, collectibles, stuffed animals and was extremely creative in making special Christmas cards and other craft items/gifts.
Both Les and Mary were instrumental to the Douglassville club's new owners. Mary fixed the speakers when they had been turned off, or the volume had been changed. Les fixed the transistor radios on numerous occasions, bathroom toilets, restocked the refrigerator, helped rig one of the center-pull wipe dispensers closed while a new one was being ordered, and requested donations (in lieu of flowers) in honor/memory of his beloved Mary. They were definitely the dynamic duo!
Both Les and Mary are also well known in the community for being teachers in the Daniel Boone School District. Les was a proud member of the 1965/66 Berks County Championship Basketball Team at Daniel Boone. He was also the recipient of the 2001 Walmart Teacher of the Year for Berks County. They have both touched so many people’s lives and Les continues to touch our lives immensely in more ways than he knows.
We are all very saddened by Mary’s recent passing. She is now the “Gym Angel” of Douglassville and a picture of her will soon be at the gym, so we can feel a part of her with us every time we are there. The gym was her home away from home and we are truly blessed to have known her.
If you see Les at the Douglassville gym, say “hello” and be sure to congratulate him on all the hard work he puts in daily to keep himself physically fit! We love you Les and are BEYOND grateful to have you as part of our Snap Family and more! ❤
