6 Essential Oils You Should Add to Your Wellness Routine

Snap Fitness

Essential oils are great and natural way to take your health and wellness routine to the next level. Whether you’re feeling stressed, tired, or sore, there is an oil for that. We’ve broken down how essential oils work and what we keep on hands at all time!

<h2> What are Essential Oils?

Essential oils are compounds extracted from plants and are typically used as an alternative form of medicine. True essential oils have their aromatic essence extracted from the plant using steam, water or a cold pressed method. Any use of chemicals in the extraction degrades the extract, diminishing their therapeutic effects.

<h2> How Do They Work?

Essential oils can be diffused and inhaled or rubbed directly on the skin after being diluted by a carrier oil. Inhalation is the most direct way to deliver the therapeutic properties of the oil to the brain. When applied to the skin, they are absorbed into the bloodstream through your pores and follicles. Apply on areas of your body where your veins are closest to the skin’s surface, like your wrists, neck and feet for quick absorption and fast relief of headaches, stress, fatigue and improvement in mood.

<h2> Oils To Get You Amped

Citrus oils like Orange or Grapefruit can give you that burst of energy that you need right before or during your workout. Take a deep whiff or apply to the skin on your feet, shoulders, neck or temples using a carrier oil, like coconut oil.

<h2> Oils for recovery

Sick of 2nd-day sore? Rubbing Peppermint oil on sore muscles right after your workout and for the next few days can help relieve those aches and pains. Peppermint is the fierce healing oil that you need to recover from those heavy lifts and long runs.

Eucalyptus is another post-workout must to reduce soreness. Pro Tip: Add a few drops of Eucalyptus oil to a cool, wet washcloth and press it into your face to reduce redness.

<h2> Oils for stress relief & relaxation

Lavender is a tried and true calming scent that will help you ease into relaxation after a hard workout or a busy, stressful day. Add 5-10 drops  of Lavender to your bath water for a spa-like experience or if you’re crunched for time, mix a couple drops of oil into your shampoo and lather, rinse, repeat your way to a calm, quiet mind.

Bergamot essential oil is another must-have for relaxation and stress relief. This citrus oil reduces anxiety, stimulates blood flow, clears the mind, and provide relaxation for the nervous system. Add a few drops of Bergamot to a diffuser to help you decompress.
