10 reasons why you need a BFF (best fitness friend) in 2021

A lot of the time it’s difficult to commit to working out. This stay-at-home year has exacerbated that. Whether we're too tired from work, exhausted from lack of sleep, or bored with our routine, it’s been hard in 2020 to find the motivation to work out. However, we have a solution to these woes! One of the best ways you can meet your exercise goals is to find a BFF- your Best Fitness Friend. Someone who can sweat alongside you (physically or virtually) and support each other! BFF’s are helpful because they truly know you and can help keep you accountable to your personal workout routine.

Here are our 10 reasons to find yourself a BFF for 2021!

1. Accountability and Motivation
Sometimes you lack the motivation to get up and move- we all experience it! It’s also easier to avoid a workout or give up at those last few seconds when you work out alone. That's where your friend comes in! You and your BFF are there to encourage each other to experience something new together. Similar to having a coach or trainer, your friend will be there to give you support when you need it most. Your BFF can hold you accountable to push through and establish a new healthy habit together!

2. Personal Connection
Did you know the same endorphins that get released from working out get released when you make personal connections? Why not do both at the same time! Making a connection with someone physically or virtually does wonders for your mental health which has a direct impact on your physical health.

3. Find New Workouts
Keeping a variety of fitness routines will help you mix up your normal routine and prevent boredom! You both can encourage each other to take on new or adventurous exercises. Even though you and your friend are making time together that doesn't mean you'll always want to do the same thing. Immerse yourself in changing things up for the goal of making exercise fun together!

4. Extend Your Workouts
Having someone by your side will keep you engaged longer than if you are alone. Do you start to get burned out after 20 minutes? Having a friend next to you can elongate your interest and keep you focused on the task at hand!

5. Competitive Edge
A little friendly competition never hurt anyone! Create goals and times to beat to keep each other motivated. Your friend lifted 30 pounds, so why not try 40 pounds to see how that feels. Competition can make exercise feel less like a task and more like a game!

6. Feel More Accomplished
After a handful of days or weeks working out together, the routine will start to feel easier. An added layer of team mentality with your BFF will help you feel more accomplished. Your BFF can be there at the end of your workout with encouraging words and high fives!

7. Make Working Out a Fun Activity
You're less likely to get bored when you have a friend around! Chatting during exercise will make the time go by faster, and it will take your mind off of the task at hand.

8. Built-In Spotter
Looking to lift more weights? With a friend there you won't have to ask someone you don't know for help. This will give you more motivation to try new weight machines or exercises where a second person is needed.

9. Build a shared workout playlist
Sometimes you really need an extra push to get up and move- and that's ok! Friends don't let friends give up! Putting together a fun playlist that has some of you and your friend's favorite pump-up songs is a great way to keep each other motivated- one song at a time!

10. Recover Together
After having an awesome work out you'll have someone by your side to celebrate your fitness achievements. Enjoying your success is what makes accomplishing your goals worth it, and can be a huge motivator to keep going.
