MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.,
– The more than 30 million UK adults who take part in sports or exercise will soon have another option when choosing a health and fitness facility.

Snap Fitness, the franchisor of more than 1,300 24/7 fitness centers worldwide, recently announced plans to open 75-100 clubs throughout the UK over the next five years, including 10 in Greater London by the end of the year.

London’s first two facilities will open in Milton Keynes and Kenton in May and April respectively.

“There is real opportunity for sector growth ahead, as more people see health and fitness as a necessity versus a luxury,” said Peter Taunton, who founded Snap Fitness in 2003 and has since expanded the brand throughout six countries, including the United States, Canada, Mexico, India, Australia and New Zealand. “This is an exciting time for us as we begin to offer gym-goers and health enthusiasts across the kingdom convenient and affordable ways to look and feel better.”

According to the Fitness Industry Association, total market value of the UK health and fitness industry is estimated at £3.81 billion, sustained from 2010 and up 4% since 2008. In addition, the industry has grown its member base by 2% whilst increasing the number of fitness facilities by a further 1.7%. In fact, 90 percent of the population live or work within two miles of one of the nearly 6,000 health and fitness facilities in the UK.

While Snap Fitness offers the same quality equipment as traditional health clubs, the booming brand is setting industry standards by focusing on complete member wellness and providing a host of products and services designed to give members better results and more value for their money. By scaling down in size and eliminating unnecessary amenities such as swimming pools and racquetball courts, Snap Fitness offers customers a quality, affordable workout with strong emphasis on customer service and convenience.

With a modest footprint that ranges from 232 to 325 square meters (2,500-3,500 square feet), a typical Snap Fitness installation includes treadmills, elliptical machines, stationary bikes, weight machines and free weights. Members pay month-to-month and can easily cancel their gym memberships or put them on hold without penalty. There are no contracts.

“We offer a fitness product that gives members the basics and screams value,” Taunton added. “People are always drawn to value. It’s a strong word in this industry and it gets undermined often.”

To augment the company’s growth, Snap Fitness is seeking single- and multi-unit franchise owners to open new clubs across the UK. The average total investment to open a Snap Fitness franchise in the UK is between £175,000 and £250,000.

MINNEAPOLIS
, Minn.,– Snap Fitness understands that the current lending environment is a challenge – especially if you’re trying to finance a start-up business. That’s why the franchisor of more than 1,200 24/7 fitness centers worldwide decided to take it upon itself to help ease the stress associated with securing financing by developing a proprietary vendor finance program available through its primary equipment suppliers and preferred lenders.

Launched in the fourth quarter of 2009, the program was created to combat the challenges both prospective franchisees and existing franchise owners often encounter in securing the funding needed to expand their businesses, from opening additional clubs to leasing new equipment.

“We’re fortunate to have an extremely hard working and successful group of franchise owners who possess a tremendous entrepreneurial spirit,” said Peter Taunton, Founder and CEO of Snap Fitness, noting that the investment to open a club can range anywhere from approximately $68,000 to $353,000. “We’re very pleased to be able to help them secure the financing they need to expand their businesses.”

Since financing the first club under this program in January 2010, Snap Fitness has provided funding for 29 locations nationwide, an average of one per month, totaling $3.8 million in new equipment expenditures. This year Snap Fitness expects to fund approximately $2.6 million for the financing of 20 new store installations.

“From new exercise equipment to signage and mirrors, Snap’s vendor finance program will provide 100 percent financing for everything you need to open your new location,” said Josh Schaubach, a Snap Fitness franchisee who recently financed the costs incurred to relocate and upgrade one of his three Snap club locations. “With Snap handling the financing, it allows me to put all my focus into the growth of my business.”

Founded in 2003 and franchising since 2004, Snap Fitness remains one of the world’s fastest growing franchisor of 24/7 express fitness centers. In 2011 alone, the burgeoning brand opened more than 150 clubs worldwide.

‘Fit’ to be a Franchise Owner

10/21/2011

CONTACT: PATRICK STRAIT, SNAP FITNESS, 952-567-5892, PSTRAIT@SNAPFITNESS.COM

CHANHASSEN, Minn.,
– Charlice Noble-Jones woke up last Tuesday as a fourth grade social studies teacher. And now, she’s partnering with Snap Fitness CEO Peter Taunton and opening a gym in Albany, Georgia.

A 9-11 survivor who has endured more than her share of difficult times, Noble-Jones won her very own Snap Fitness franchise after entering the nationwide “Partner with Peter” contest. She beat out more than 2,000 other entrants for the grand prize worth $250,000, which includes the building, equipment, site selection, initial rent and working capital to get her started.

“I’m shocked, I’m excited, I’m so extremely happy,” she said. “Things have happened in my life like the other shoe has fallen, but this has such a positive impact. I believe that I’m about to live the life I was born to live.”

A graduate of Howard University, Noble-Jones previously worked on Wall Street, where she witnessed and survived the World Trade Center attacks in 2001. Two years later, she lost her husband to cancer. Soon after, the single mom of an eight-year-old son decided to dedicate her life to giving back to her community and became a fourth grade social studies teacher.

Owning a gym had become a dream for Noble-Jones after she spent the last several months trying to improve her own physical fitness.

“We are proud to award Charlice with this opportunity,” said Taunton, who will be working with the new business owner on a monthly basis monitoring her marketing and sales. “As an entrepreneur myself, I know the importance of guidance for anyone embarking on a new business venture. This contest gives me a great chance to pass along my knowledge and business experience to one deserving individual.”

Noble-Jones plans to continue teaching for at least a couple of more years while she gets her business off the ground.
