What’s More Beneficial for Fat Burn — Cardio or HIIT?

2020-08-31 | By: Snap Fitness

Whether you're a beginner or a fitness expert, you must be quite familiar with the long-existing duel between Cardio and HIIT.

HIIT vs Cardio has been the talk of the town and choosing between the two for fat loss is a dilemma for many of us.

So, let's start with the fundamentals, and deconstruct the concept of both HIIT and cardio.

What Is a HIIT Workout?

HIIT, or High-Intensity Interval Training, is a compact workout schedule with power-packed quick moves and few resting intervals in between sets.

For instance, instead of running for 30 minutes, you sprint for 30 seconds with 20 seconds rest intervals. You repeat this schedule of workout until you can't sprint anymore.

HIIT is very popular among those who want to burn fat quickly and want quick weight loss results.

What Is a Cardio Workout?

Cardio, or cardiovascular exercise, is any activity that gets your heart rate up and has massive effects on your fitness levels as well as your overall health.

An ideal cardio session would be swimming, running, cycling or stair climbing for a good 30 minutes or so.

What's a Good Cardio Workout at the Gym?

Any steady-state aerobic exercise is the perfect cardio workout e.g. running, skipping, stair climbing, boxing, swimming, jogging, dancing, etc. If done properly, you can do a cardio session 4-5 times a week combined with proper dietary changes to gain focused results

Is HIIT Better Than Cardio?

The answer is yes, but the final verdict is completely yours as you are the judge as to what works for you best. HIIT is anaerobic and burns more calories than cardio in half the time.

Essentially HIIT is much more metabolic on the body which means it has a greater impact on fat burn in contrast to steady-state cardio. However, if you have depleted levels of carbs, HIIT is definitely not for you.

What Is the Best HIIT Workout?

There is no hard and fast rule that you should follow when it comes to exercises. The trick isn’t in the workouts themself, but rather the intervals surrounding them.

So how do you do HIIT workouts at the gym? Pick 5 exercises that you feel you have the muscular strength for and do each one for 30 seconds. Repeat the set for 3 rounds or as per your body strength, and rest for at least 25 seconds between each exercise.

Some exercises you can try are

  • lunge jumps

  • body crunches

  • knee-ups

  • squats

  • mountain climbers

If you still have doubts, reach out to your nearest trainer and get the best HIIT workout at the gym for weight loss.

Benefits of HIIT vs Cardio

Studies have proven that HIIT is more beneficial as opposed to cardio. Here a few benefits of HIIT.

  • HIIT is high on fat burning and has lower durations

  • Boosts growth hormones responsible for fat loss and toning muscles

  • Helps increase lung capacity and blood circulation

  • Strengthens the heart and muscles

Of course, it’s best to track your own personal progress and see how your body reacts to each of these workouts separately.

If you struggle with HIIT workouts at home, your best bet would be finding a gym in Dubai near you. Getting a gym membership in Motor City, Media City, or even Downtown Dubai for that matter can give you the much-needed push in your fitness journey.
