The importance of hydration during exercise

Just like our planet is made up of 71% water, our bodies are also made up of nearly 60% water. Therefore, as human beings the most essential thing for our survival on this planet after oxygen is water. Given these facts, is it paramount that we hydrate and replenish our resources often. Additionally, when exercising in gym hydration is key to get the most out of your body while working out.

In this article, we talk about the importance of hydration and the right way to hydrate while exercising. 

Why is hydration important during exercise?

Fluids are integral to maintaining a healthy body. Water is essential in maintaining a healthy heart, brain, muscles and for the regulation of our body temperature through perspiration. Being well hydrated during a workout improves your overall ability to perform exercises, improves sleep, facilitates detox and aids in weight loss. Often enough, we forget to hydrate properly during our workouts and this leads to dehydration.

This can cause serious problems like muscle fatigue, excessive sweating due to an increase in our body temperatures and hence overheating and also a problem in our mental functions which can lead to bigger problems like dizziness or fainting. In order to avoid such problems, we cannot stress enough how replenishing body fluids is extremely important, especially while working out in a gym in UAE, a place that already experiences a very hot climate. 

How do you hydrate while exercising?

If you’re worried about your fluid intake during your workouts and want to keep it in check, it is vital to drink at least 2-4 litres of water before working out in a hot climate. This is a general rule of thumb which of course can vary depending on your age, height and weight. People who are looking to shed extra pounds should drink more water as it helps flush out unwanted toxins from the body. Additionally, regular water is far better for you than sports drinks, flavoured water, juices and sugary workout drinks.

While we have established the importance of pre-workout hydration, it is also important to replace fluids and get that post-workout hydration going as well!  As established, sipping some H2O during your workouts will not only stop you from getting dehydrated, but it will also eradicate soreness, improve endurance, keep energy levels high and reduce muscle injuries. So keep up with those water drinks during your workouts!
