Got a New Year’s Fitness Resolution? Here’s How to Stick to it
A study has shown that only around 8% of people actually stick to their New Year’s resolutions and achieve their goals. This means that the majority of the population fumbles at some point or the other.
Out of the people who make a new year’s resolution, a large chunk makes fitness their prime agenda. But how can you be more like that 8% population? How to actually stick to your resolution and make it work?
Well, we can’t actually force you to stick to a routine. What we can do is provide you with some essential tips that can be key to achieving your fitness goals this new year.
Tips to Achieve Your Fitness New Year’s Resolution
- Set a Realistic Goal: This is one piece of advice that you will see on all platforms. This is so much repeated, yet so less followed. Most of us have high expectations of ourselves. We believe that we can start achieving the impossible from the next day. But that’s not how it works. You won’t just transform completely and start achieving your goals as the clock strikes 12. Understand that it’s a process and try to take it slow. Set small goals initially, see how it goes, and then proceed further. Try to enjoy the journey rather than just being fixated on the target. And, it’s okay if you fail a day or two. Just get up and start again.
- Use Technology: There are so many apps available nowadays that can help you track your exercise routine and calories. You can use these apps to monitor yourself and your health. You can also use smart bands and smartwatches that can help monitor things such as your step count, heartbeat, etc. Such data can come in handy to curate your fitness regime.
- Workout Together: Working out with a friend can be highly beneficial. It is likely to be a motivating factor and will help push you forward. Also, it kindles a kind of competitive spirit which is always helpful in making you do better and go the extra mile. Additionally, you can also join a gym like Snap Fitness that has a vibrant community. Being a part of such a community will not only push you to do better but will also help you make friends for life.
- Plan it Out: Chalking out your routine is so essential that it can’t be overlooked. Have a plan on paper. Figure out what time works best for you to do the exercises. And, don’t worry, you probably won’t be able to set a perfect routine in one go. It will require modification. But, the key is to have one in writing and trying to stick to it. An example of how to do this is by marking it on your calendar or sticking a note on your fridge. The more visible it is, the more it will remain in your mind, and hence, the more you are likely to stick to it.
