Cardio - Why and How?
Probably the first image that comes to your mind when you hear the term cardio is of a person, panting after lots of running and sweating profusely.
Seems a bit unpleasant, right?
While cardio might sound like something tough and unpleasant, it has been well established that it is one of the fastest means of losing weight.
So with further ado, let's dive into the questions of why Cardio is so important and how can you do it?
Why is Cardio important and why should you do it?
Short for Cardiovascular exercise, Cardio involves activities (running, cycling, etc.) that can get your heart rate up. This consequently increases the blood circulation through your body.
Cardio is recommended by almost everyone as one of the best mediums to lose weight. It helps to burn those calories a lot faster than most other forms of exercise.
But did you know that it has numerous other benefits besides helping you lose weight?
As we mentioned before, cardio essentially gets your heart working on an improved level. It helps to strengthen the muscles of the walls of your heart, thereby improving your cardiovascular health and decreasing the risk of related ailments in the long run.
Also, like most other forms of exercises, cardio is linked to the production of hormones which can improve your mood. Hence, it can be used as a tool to battle mental tiredness and fatigue as well.
Burning calories means that you are utilizing glucose. Cardio exercises help to improve the ability of muscles to utilize glucose, thereby helping to maintain blood sugar levels. Better the blood sugar levels, lesser the chances of you contracting diseases such as Diabetes.
So now that we know the various benefits of doing Cardio, let’s come to the next question.
How can you do it?
A simple and short answer to this question would be, “Whatever floats your boat”? It can be running, walking, jogging, cycling, basically anything that can get your heart beating faster (and yes, love and horror is excluded here).
But of course, it would be a bummer to get such a “single-line” answer after reading the blog up to this point.
So let’s have a closer look at some of the ways (other than running) in which you can do cardio
- Kickboxing: Boxing is fun, and kickboxing, even more so. After all, what can be better than getting to punch a bag as much as you can and as hard as you can to take out your frustration. Plus, you get the added benefits of improving your health too! In fact, in just an hour, you can lose as much as 750 calories!
- Bike: A bike is probably one of the most widely used tools for cardio. Besides being one of the most effective and widely used exercises, it is also one of the most challenging ones. Though pedalling while being stationary can be a bit boring at times, the pros here certainly outnumber the cons.
- Metcons: Now you might have seen this a lot, and while primarily it might seem an exercise for body building, it actually forms an amazing cardio workout. But it should be noted that it requires the supervision of trained instructors to avoid the risk of injury.
Speaking of trainers, there is one place in Dubai where you can get the best ones, and that is Snap Fitness. Not only does Snap Fitness have some of the best gyms in Dubai offering world-class services but also has experienced trainers to guide you through that cardio session.
