Bio: see that up there ^^ that’s what it says on my card, not much about who i am... just what i do.

Who is this guy? MY name is Devon, i work at snap fitness of walnut creek. That’s not all i do, oh no. I also love to juggle, eat edible objects, and play with dogs. That’s not it! i also am currently in school, at my age its not uncommon for people like me to be in college. I am currently 22, although i may be a little older now, i don’t know when the next time i update this will be. i hope not too long between updates. Think of this more as a blog, less of a bio. honestly, i do enjoy my job, Mandi my boss teaches me a bunch. All things considered this is a good fit for me. i am working towards my masters in business. its tough but some day i will get there.

So what does he do? Things I do here at Snap; well my day to day is filled with talking to our wonderful members! don’t let that fool you, i do a lot more than it looks like. Most of the emails you get about current club specials, that's me just letting you know whats going on. Most of the new members have met me at some point, I'm one of the exclusive people who have the fantastic job of paperwork! I also enjoy returning calls, if you ever find yourself stuck and have nobody to talk to about gym related things feel free to call on me! I always make time for our members. So what does he really do? Devon enjoys his job, clients, and co-workers.

Why is this bio so fantastic/interesting? i hope if your still with me that you have realized this bio is a bit longer that expected. As you may already be able to tell this bio is not as professional as my co-workers. the funny part about that one is, i would really like each and every one of our members to really get to know me, given the chance i feel i am a pretty good person. i work very hard and take the time to go the extra mile, on and off the treadmill. Gym pun for you, i hope you laughed out loud. "LOL" if you will, ether way its important you understand the gravity of the gym jokes.

Why do you stay at snap fitness? incase you have been wondering, i am asking myself these questions. there isn't a form for this. its my free writing that makes this bio, what it is. any-who the reason i stay here... to be upfront about it, its a good fit for me. i enjoy working out, i enjoy people, and my job although difficult at times i enjoy the time where i can put my hands to the keyboard and start doing things like accounting, and book keeping. i also get paid. most jobs pay you, that’s probably the best part about jobs, mostly because nobody wants to be homeless.

Whats the best thing about Snap? YOU! the ones who made it to the end, read the entire bio, (clap hands) enjoy yourself, enjoy our gym and as my boss says in every email...

Be Well,

Devon

Liz Birmingham

Liz Birmingham

I joined Snap Fitness shortly after moving from Ashland, Oregon to Walnut Creek because I was in need of a new gym. Snap Fitness seemed special because it is a quiet, friendly, neighborhood gym. I also really enjoy the fact that it is open all hours and that it's available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

I am motivated by feeling stronger and firmer with more energy. I also enjoy seeing myself advance and be able to use heavier weights and more reps. I am a Type 2 diabetic and appreciate seeing normal blood sugar from exercising.

The differences I have have seen are toner muscles, and increased strength. I possess more energy and feel better. I have only been sick once since I have been exercising so it's got to be a good thing.

Kathy King

Kathy King

I am so jazzed and honored to be the July 2011 member of the month.  My name is Kathy King, a two year member of Snap Fitness and still loving it.  Dr. Oz preaches that just moving 20 minutes a day is the best medicine for one's body.  So even though I was an avid walker and weekend runner, I decided to join a health club to add to my fitness routine.  In the first few months I would work on the various machines aimlessly until I met Wes, who got me in the right direction.  Do I huff and puff? Oh ya.  Do I grunt and whine? You bet.  But it's all worth the effort.  I feel great when I am done with my session and after 6 months, I found some long lost muscles and feel healthier.

It's feels good to be able to keep up with my 2 very active grandsons.  Playing baseball and swimming are one of my favorite activities with them.

While I am not playing and exercising, my daily job is at KRON TV, where I am a behind scene manager for the last 30 years. It is a fast pace and hectic job, but I love what I do and keeping healthy and fit is what keeps this working grandma going and going.

Get In and Get Fit

I tried Snap Fitness for a month in 2009 to get some exercise and lose some post-holiday weight during the rainy season, and liked it so much I extended my membership for a year, and then another. I’m mostly a desk jockey during the day, and regular exercise at Snap has helped me maintain fitness for soccer a couple times a week, and recover from occasional injury. I like the flexibility of 24-hour access, the website with a variety of exercise instructions, and the location just a few minutes from home. I’ve enjoyed meeting other members who come at the same times of day. I’ve also taken advantage of Snap locations in Fairfield, CA, and San Antonio, Texas. I recently took advantage of Snap’s offer to try yoga and Pilates classes, and decided to sign up for the yoga – Meghan is a great instructor, and the yoga works well for stretching to compliment weight training and cardiovascular training, and also a discipline that incorporates relaxation into its regimen. I’d encourage other Snap members to give yoga or Pilates a try.

The Snap Fitness Difference

In January this year I began looking for a gym where I could get exercise in a clean, friendly atmosphere. After looking at several options in the area I chose Snap because it is intimate, not crowded, well maintained and has very friendly staff. I am 64 years young, have been sedentary most of those years, and spent the first six months of 2009 off my feet recovering from a broken ankle. Total recovery has taken more than a full year. When I joined Snap Fitness in mid January I was pretty much starting at zero. I began working with a trainer twice a week from the very beginning and noticed a difference after the first couple of sessions. I also ride the bicycle a couple times a week. My goal is to build my strength and thereby improve my health. Through the training sessions, I have improved my core strength and balance. Daily activities are now much easier for me! I have lost a few pounds and plan on loosing more.

Thank you to Snap Fitness and Julian Watts in particular for making it possible for me to achieve my fitness goals. The customized training has made a huge difference.  I have been amazed at how quickly I have been able to see improvement. I used to not enjoy exercising but now I look forward to my workouts.

Win with Snap Fitness

I joined Snap Fitness in May of 2008 to get in better shape for a knee replacement surgery occurring in September and the rehabilitation that would follow. I found Snap Fitness to be convenient to my lifestyle because it is only 5 minutes away from my home, reasonable rates, and it's open 24 hours a day, 7 days a weeks. I also enjoy my fellow members at Snap Fitness because they are mostly neighbors from the surrounding area. The staff is very friendly and personable and the gym has excellent, well maintained equipment that is always clean. After surgery, I have continued workouts 4 to 5 days a week and feel great.  I would recommend Snap Fitness Walnut Creek to anyone because I'm a very satisfied member.

Member Spotlight

I joined Snap Fitness because I was in poor shape and had a difficult time walking or moving. What a difference it has made in my life. I love going in each time and feel so great when I'm done with my workout.  Juilian helped me regain my balance and now I am working out on my own. Whenever I have a question someone is there to help me. The staff has shown me how to use the machines with correct form to prevent injuries. Brandon and Brett are always very welcoming each time I come into the gym, which makes being greeted fun. I really look forward to working out and wish I had the time to come in every day. Thank you everyone at Snap Fitness for being there for all us.

Snap Fitness is the Neighborhood Gym

When I joined Snap Fitness Walnut Creek, I weighed 140 pounds and had not previously belonged to a gym. After working out at Snap Fitness I now weigh 160 pounds. Working out at Snap Fitness gives you a community feeling because the members and staff are friendly. The gym equipment is new and you never have to wait around to use a machine or free weight. I've been going to the gym for about a year and half now and I feel great. It's given me a sense of accomplishment.

Motivation for Recovery

While I was searching for a fitness studio I had four elements that I was hoping to find, convenience, proximity, and an energentic and motivating environment. Snap Fitness Walnut Creek has met my needs, exponentially. They are open 24/7 and it only takes me 5 minutes to walk here from my home. Their staff is enthusiactic and friendly, which gives me the motivation that I need in my recovery. When I first walked through these doors, I weighed 275 pounds with 11 months of sobriety. Today I am 250 pounds and dropping with 15 months of sobriety and counting. I workout 6 days a week, and it's the highlight of my day. Keep those apples coming, lol.

Less is More!

I quit a much larger gym in the hopes of finding a peaceful inexpensive workout environment. Snap Fitness Walnut Creek is perfect for me. The staff is very friendly and helpful, the gym is always clean, and it's never crowded. After being a member of Snap for a few months, I was ready to take my fitness routine more seriously and I started working with Fitness Trainer, Richard Brown, in addition to road cycling and swimming. Rich has been great to work with, motivating without being pushy, always friendly, and very knowledgeable about fitness, nutrition, and overall wellness.  This has not been my experience with other trainers and I feel lucky that I found exactly what I was looking for in my own neighborhood.

Get in and Get Fit!

I joined Snap Fitness in 2009, and I enjoy the Walnut Creek Snap Fitness.  I have taught and worked in many health and fitness center's and I enjoy having the ability to come to Snap every day for personal workout time.  I like the balance of a casual social environment with the self motivated 'come in and kick your own butt' style of Snap. The equipment is well maintained, the members and staff are friendly, the trainers are very good and knowledgeable, and the gym is very clean overall. I live in the neighborhood and love the 24 hour access system. Although Snap is a relatively small gym, the equipment is versatile and can be used in many ways.  My approach to fitness is very eclectic and blends many different kinds of forms and practices. Snap Fitness satisfies my need for an up to date yet simple decent gym that supports my healthy lifestyle.

Movtivation through Training

I've been a member for awhile now, but have seriously been taking advantage of my membership since September of this year. I work out with a trainer twice a week, take yoga classes on Saturday mornings, and am working harder than ever on my cardio and nutrition.

Jullian Watts is my trainer and he motivates and pushes me more than I would ever push myself. He's reassuring and never let's me say, "can't". Meaghan teaches yoga and is amazing too. I look forward to being able to focus on myself at the end of the week and she is an important part of that. The staff is friendly, welcoming, and encouraging as well and that makes it a nice place to want to be.

My family is very supportive and it helps with two small boys. I can't believe the changes I am seeing in my body and stamina in these last three months. And to think three short months ago, I was afraid to let go of the treadmill...

Thanks for everything Snap!

Whatever it Takes!

It took a video game to put me onto the path to fitness. On July 2nd 2008, I used my boys Wii Fit game console for the first time. One of the features of this device is that it provides you with your Body Mass Index. At 6'0", 230lbs I had a BMI of 31.2, and the little on screen avatar announced, "That's Obese!" Having a cartoon character inform me that I was obese was not an enjoyable experience. I got angry at that avatar and said to myself, "he'll never say that again!" That event, coupled with the fact that I was having difficulty bending over to tie my shoes sparked a desire to get healthy.

In my youth I had been a runner, but knee, ankle, back and hamstring issues now hampered my ability to run pain-free. In its place I tried walking, and found that I could get a excellent cardio workout in about an hour. In early August of '08 I stepped back onto the Wii Fit, and my avatar nemesis announced that I was now "overweight". Though better than being obese, this was still not acceptable. It was then that I decided to join Snap Fitness. The fact that I could come to Snap whenever I wanted, get in a good workout, and get back home was very appealing to me. I began a workout routine that included an hour on the treadmill 5-6 times per week, weight training workouts 3-4 evenings per week, and eating healthier. I dropped fast food from my diet and started eating more fruits and vegetables. The pounds were melting off of me, and I was feeling much better. On December 21, 2008 I stepped onto the Wii Fit and weighed in at 183 lbs. with a BMI of 24.8. My Avatar Friend announced, "That's Normal". It took 173 days, but I went from a BMI in the obese range to a BMI in the healthy range.

Snap Fitness has played an important role on my path to getting, and now staying fit. The quality of the equipment is fantastic, the staff is very friendly and helpful, and the place is not overcrowded. In the 2 ½ years I've been a member I have had to wait exactly one time to get onto a treadmill. This is not a place where you have to fight for equipment, and I look forward to being a member for years to come.

Change is Good!

I started working out at Snap Fitness Walnut Creek in October 2010. When I first joined, I weighed 215 lbs. and as of of now, I am happy to say that Snap has helped me get my weight down to 187 lbs. It is a huge accomplishment that I could not have done without this gym.

I was a member at 24 Hour Fitness for 2 years before joining Snap and I rarely went because of the inconvenient crowded location, parking, and unsatisfying atmosphere. As soon as, I started going to Snap I was hooked. The TV's and layout of the gym are very enjoyable and the members and staff are really nice. Being able to go grocery shopping in the same parking lot isn't so bad either. Thank you Snap!

Expanding Fitness Limits

I joined Snap Fitness in December of 2009 after moving from Oklahoma to Lafayette. I love living in the bay area with so many fun, wonderful places to go and see. I was interested in joining a gym that was conveniently located and would provide a safe place to work out. I prefer to workout outdoors during the summer and love to go hiking, but I really enjoy the gym atmosphere as well - especially during inclement weather :) I am thoroughly pleased with Snap Fitness and I love my personal training sessions with Wes Conti. She has greatly helped me to expand my fitness limits.

Getting Past the Excuses!

Being healthy isn't easy. There are too many reasons (sometimes excuses) we all have that keep us from being healthy. Mine were the following: I'm in college and I work full time - I don't have time to cook, let alone work out; Going to the gym costs money and fast food is cheap; I'm young and I have time to worry about it later.

What I didn't realize was that I was making my body older by not taking care of it! After graduating from San Jose State, I was the highest weight I had ever been and dangerously close to weight related diseases. But I still did nothing! It was easier to think about all the other aspects of my life - but I was neglecting myself. After 2011 began, lots of changes in my life happened, and I knew it was time to take care of myself. So I joined Snap Fitness!

I've tried crazy diets in the past that promised weight loss without moving a muscle but (not surprisingly) they all failed. Loosing weight and being healthy requires effort, and part of that is being active. At Snap Fitness, I don't feel like I'm at a mega gym being judged. I come to this gym and I love seeing familiar faces. I am always motivated by the people I see around me, who have many more reasons to be busy with their lives instead of working out - it reminds me that there is always time to be good to your body.

When I'm training with Wes, my personal trainer, I am pushed more than I have ever pushed myself - and it feels great! It's an amazing feeling of accomplishment to know I can do all the things I never thought I could do. With my easyFit, I can track my calories in the gym and see my progress on the Snap Fitness personal website! Since joining Snap Fitness, I have lost over ten pounds and I have never felt better about my health. My long term goals are set and I know the friends I've made at Snap Fitness will help me all along the way.

Man, I'm getting too old for this.  I say that a lot, mostly to myself, sometimes to whoever is nearby when I'm between sets at Snap Fitness.  Do I really mean it?  Yea, sometimes.  But most of the time it's just my odd little way of expressing gratitude that I'm still going to the gym after 30 plus years.

I'm very lucky: I still love to exercise and I have a great place to go, Snap Fitness, which is less than a half mile from home and right next to my favorite market.  Fortunately, I also like fruits, vegetables, and a lot of other healthy foods (plus many of the not so healthy ones).  So for me, trying to stay in shape is less of a chore than it might be for other people.

I have great motivators to stay in shape as well, mainly my family.  I am happily married and - let's face it - we all would like to continue to stay healthy and fit for the ones we love.  I also have a 16-year daughter, who is a great soccer player.  When she was young I worked out to try to set a good example.  Now?  Now, I just try to keep up with her, which is a losing battle, but one that I happily wage every week.  And then there's my 26-year old son who I don't even try to keep up with anymore in the weight room.

I also referee competitive soccer, and if you have ever seen 19 year old boys play soccer then you know that they are big, strong, fast and they don't seem to ever get tired.  The girls may not be as big and fast, but they are every bit as competitive, fit and talented.  I literally have no choice; I have to show up to games in shape.

And right now there's one more motivator.  In August, I turn 50 and I would like to accomplish something on my birthday that I haven't done since I was young.  In fact, I've set two goals: to run a six-minute mile on the treadmill followed by 50 pull-ups in under seven minutes.  (Maybe six minutes - we'll see.)  This may not be the loftiest of goals, but it's a good one for me, one that requires some effort.

Snap Fitness is a great place to stay in shape.  The facility has all of the equipment I need, including treadmills, free weights, pull-up bars and plenty of devices to help with core exercises.  There is always a friendly crowd of people of various ages, all working hard to get and stay in shape in a relaxed atmosphere.  And the Snap Fitness staff does an excellent job of keeping the equipment in great working condition and the facilities clean, all while helping members reach their fitness goals.

I try to get to the gym five to six times a week unless I have games to referee, in which case, I come in a little less.  I strive for a balance of cardio, resistance and core training, and I try to mix things up.  Some days I focus all on cardio, some days all on resistance, some days on a combination of both, and I try to do core exercises on all days.  And the key to core for me is to do sets in between my sets of resistance training so that I am getting in plenty of core work and resting very little between all sets.  I sometimes do core in between short, fast intervals on the treadmill, and I try to run at least a half mile on days that I focus on resistance training.  Wow, I'm getting tired just writing this paragraph.

Like I said, I think I'm getting too old for this.  And I hope I'm saying that for a long time to come!?

See what Snap Fitness can do for you!

After many years of feeling sorry for myself and giving myself excuses for gaining so much weight, I decided that I had to do something major to change my lifestyle. On June 1st I joined Snap Fitness Walnut Creek and changed my eating habits at 46 years old. I started out very slowly… just the treadmill for 20 minutes with no elevation at a 2.5 speed. Seriously, s l o w! But, I went 5 or 6 days a week. I gradually gained speed and began using the weight machines. In four months I lost 32 pounds and went from a size 12 to a 6.

Now I’ve lost a total of 37 pounds and for the first time in years I’m actually below the weight it says on my driver’s license! I feel much better, I have more energy and I’m happier – gotta love those endorphins! My husband has lost over 20 pounds and we are really enjoying going to Snap together.  It’s a low-key gym with well-maintained equipment and an encouraging, friendly staff. What more could you ask for?

The Snap Fitness Difference

I enrolled with Snap Fitness in August of 2008. As a local resident, I was attracted to the convenient location and 24/7 access that Snap Fitness offers to all members. Never before at any other fitness facility, have I had the pleasure of enjoying the freedom to workout whenever I want, without the hassle of dealing with or working around enormous crowds, especially during peak hours. There is also a certain culture that exists among the members and staff that you cannot find anywhere else. From my experience, the members here are all very kind, positive, and flexible when it comes to taking turns with the equipment or simply asking for a spot. The staff takes great pride in their facility and it shows! Aside from their die-hard customer service and positive attitude that supplies such a fun and chill atmosphere, they keep this place super clean.

Thanks to the staff, owner, and members of Snap Fitness Walnut Creek, I have been able to supplement a very healthy lifestyle that keeps me feeling great! My wife recently enrolled and she feels the same way as I do. Being part of the Snap Fitness family has been an absolute blessing and I am so grateful for everything they provide.
