I had been out of shape for a while, but the real damage started about 10 months ago when I quit chewing tobacco. Kicking an 11-year habit. After quitting chewing tobacco, I started to constantly snack and gained 30 pounds in 10 months.
I wasn’t strict with my diet and began putting on weight quickly. I was drinking a lot and eating fatty foods often. What a life! I had a revelation when my wife made a joke – “Holy cow! You’re pouring out of your shorts!” I jumped on the scale. I had gone from 215 pounds to 245 pounds and knew I needed to make a change!
I signed up for the $200,000 Transformation Challenge Presented By Dymatize Nutrition through Bodybuilding.com and dedicated 12 weeks to the process. Sometimes I would get up at 3 a.m. and do an hour of cardio before work and return in the afternoon for a resistance training session. This coupled with a strict, no-cheat diet plan propelled me to where I am today.
It certainly wasn't easy, and many times tested my determination, but I had a goal. Finally, my stubborn personality came through in a positive manner. If I was offered food, I'd say no. When co-workers said I was nuts, I laughed and said, "maybe so." I had a goal and I was going to accomplish it. I set out to lose those 30 pounds and wanted to drop between eight and 10 percent body fat.
I am proud to say I not only accomplished my goal, but I crushed it! I ended up losing 47 pounds and roughly 13 percent body fat.
