Doreen Meyers - Owner

Exercise has been a part of my life for over 30 years.  I have always had 2 great passions exercise and shopping.  Prior to opening Snap Fitness, I worked in the technical industry for over 16 years. After my second child was born, I decided to resign and be a stay at home mom…that was 10 years ago.

A few years ago we thought it was time for me to go back to work.  First I tried real estate.  That lasted one year and turned out to be an expensive hobby.   My next attempt at re-entering the work force was doing what I loved and was good at and that was looking for an executive assistant position.   After finding employment, a combination of being out of the corporate environment for so long and the stress led me to leave.

That led my husband and I to decide we would invest in a business.  He asked me what I would like to do other than go shopping.   That’s where my love for exercise and helping people led us to decide on a fitness center.

Our goal is for this to be a family neighborhood gym, with a friendly staff and the tools you need to help you achieve your fitness goals – it’s never too late!

On March 7, 2009, I ran a 5K in 37 minutes.  For some of you that are avid runners, you may say, “that’s pretty slow”, but for those of you out there that don’t run at all or know how long it would take to run a 5K, I say that’s pretty good, especially because this was my very 1^st one.  Am I proud of myself?  Yes, definitely.  I am an overcomer! 

I have struggled with my weight for a long time now. It became more of a problem after I had my 2 children.  I stopped caring. I stopped having the desire to look good for myself.  I was so insecure, I was so unhappy and I was looking at death right in the face. 

It was time for a change. After my husband and I joined SnapFitness, I had an appointment for an orientation with a trainer, Ashley.  She, with the help of God, would change my life.  When I started my orientation, Ashley had me do some crunches, facing the mirror.  When I looked at my reflection, I was disgusted with myself. Self-doubt started to flood my mind, and losing hope was evident.  Why was I here, what change was this going to make?  I had tried everything, what makes you think this will work?  I cried that day at my reflection and as I took a look at my trainer, Ashley, tears rolled down her face.  She knew how I felt that day and she understood my pain.  Without hesitation, she started to believe I could do this.  Ashley has motivated me, she has challenged me and she has believed in me, without a doubt, and therefore I began to believe in myself.

Today, I am 87 lbs lighter! I have energy. I have the motivation to keep on keeping on. I work out 5 times a week. And yet, it’s hard to get to the gym sometimes. I talk myself into going, because this is the only way to be a better me.  I have many more goals to succeed in, and I thank God daily for giving me strength and for helping me to believe in myself again.

My hope for you, whoever is reading this, is that you would begin to believe in yourself, that you would meet that special person in your life that will motivate you, believe in you and inspire you to continue the journey of a better and healthier lifestyle and, that person is YOU!!
