Mike Scogna, Owner

My family and I moved to Monterey, California in 1973.  After graduating from Monterey High School and completing a tour in the Air Force, I eventually moved to Stockton and attended Delta College, where I received my AS in Computer Science.  I moved to Sacramento to complete my Bachelors in Computer Science, and soon after graduation, I moved back to Manteca where I began working at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.  After many years there, I decided to leave and start my own business. I have been coaching Little League Baseball for the last 12 years and enjoy camping and riding my waverunners in the summer.  The safety and well-being of all my members will always be my number one priority and I am honored to become a part of this community.

We really love this gym. It always has a friendly, pleasant and relaxed atmosphere.  And because of the convenience, this is the first gym we have ever stuck with......over 3 years now.  We really feel at home here and have made it part of our daily routine and we feel really energized when we get done with our workouts and now we are able to keep up with all the grandkids!

At 37, I finally accepted the fact that I was overweight, about 40 pounds to be exact. I had been in fairly good shape as a young adult, but as my thirties came on and especially after the birth of my son, I realized that no matter what I wore or how I sucked it in, I had become overweight.  The extra pounds and sedentary lifestyle left me feeling run down, a bit depressed and generally unhealthy. I had tried a few big name gyms over the past 10 years, but never stuck with them. They were too far from home, too expensive and sometimes if felt like people were there more to be seen than to work out. I was so excited when Snap came to town and even more excited to learn that it was affordable, open 24 hours, clean and very well equipped.  I started going maybe twice a week, only able to use the elliptical for 15 minutes without holding the handles. I dabbled with the weights, trying 2 or 3 types, feeling like I might look odd or out of place.  However, the environment at snap is very low key and friendly, and in a few months my confidence grew and the pounds started to melt. All in all, I lost 37 pounds. As my enthusiasm for fitness grew, Ripon Snap was able to provide the right type of equipment and atmosphere where I could continually push myself to new limits.  Once or twice I had a question arise outside of Mike, the owner's office hours and he was always prompt to return my email or call.  If you have the will, Ripon Snap can provide the means, 24 hours a day without breaking your wallet. It's a great place to turn your health and life around!
