We are proud sponsors of the Nor-Gwyn baseball tourney and fireworks!
NORTH WALES — Nor-Gwyn Baseball and Softball has been selected to host the 2009 Pennsylvania American Legion Baseball Tournament to be held July 18-22. Eight championship level teams from the Berks, BuxMont, Northampton, Lehigh, and Schuylkill Leagues will square off in the annual double-elimination event. All tournament games will be played at Hostelley Field at the Nor-Gwyn Complex on Hancock Road in Upper Gwynedd Township.
According to Kevin Manero, Manager of the Nor-Gwyn Hawks American Legion Baseball team, this is the first time Nor-Gwyn has ever hosted an American Legion Baseball post-season tournament. Nor-Gwyn was selected to host the tournament this year for three reasons:
Past success of the Hawks— The Nor-Gwyn team has qualified for the last four Region 2 tournaments. In 2005, the team won the tournament and went on to win the Pennsylvania state championship for the first time in its 40+ year history.
The Nor-Gwyn Complex & Hostelley Field — The facility is conveniently located near major roads, shopping, restaurants, and lodging. The complex also features plenty of parking, clean restrooms, and a refreshment stand. Hostelley Field is lighted, has minor league style dugouts, and seats hundreds of spectators in a stadium setting.
Past success hosting tournaments- Nor-Gwyn has hosted many All-Star games, championship games, and major tournaments for Pennsylvania Connie Mack Baseball, Elite Championship Tournament Baseball (ECTB), ASA Softball, Little League Baseball, and The Perkiomen Twilight Baseball League.
Nor-Gwyn began preparations for the Region 2 Tournament late last year by organizing its tournament committee, which consists of 14 subcommittees. The group has been meeting each month to plan all the aspects of the event, including tickets sales, advertising, refreshment stand menus, site planning, staffing, and lodging.
Nor-Gwyn Baseball & Softball is a community-based, non-profit organization that provides instructional and competitive baseball and softball program for over 900 boys, girls, men, and women in Upper Gwynedd Township, North Wales Borough, and surrounding communities.
