Hobbies: traveling, combative sports, bowling, hangout with the dog.
What made you choose Snap?
Looking through the window just passing by, I saw Jim Baldwin flexing for someone. It was love at first sight. But seriously, Snap is great because it's fast, convenient, and affordable. I most value the convenience. It's close to home. It's open 24 hours. And I have access to any location, which is great when I'm out of town.
Why personal training?
Fear is a great motivator. I want to take all precautions to avoid getting beat to a pulp in my first MMA fight.
How did you get involved in Mixed Martial Arts?
I'm a lover, not a fighter. I learn how to fight so that I don't have to fight. But I decided to actually compete in the cage for two reasons. First, it's a challenge, and I've always liked extreme sports. Second, I like the martial arts philosophy...the idea that technique can beat brute force. I especially like Brazilian jiu-jitsu, which I started a couple of years ago and is good for defeating your opponent without throwing a punch. I prefer taking the route of choking my opponent unconscious, rather than punching him in the face over and over. I don't like blood. It might stain my shorts.
Any accomplishments in preparation for first fight?
Working out at Snap, particularly in training with Jim, has gotten me in great shape. Knowing that I'm in good shape, both in terms of strength and conditioning, is just one less thing to worry about. Plus, I'll look good in the cage. My abs look sick!
Do you have any suggestions for other MMA fighters?
Find a good MMA gym. Technique is everything, so finding a gym with qualified coaches and good training partners is a must. Working out at Snap to improve strength and conditioning definitely helps out too. And most importantly, get a good custom-fit mouthguard.
