The New Year brings a fresh start and a time to set goals and look ahead. Setting goals is important- your goals keep you on track and drive you to succeed. The key is to make them specific and measurable, based on your personal needs.
Five tips to set your goals:
1. Answer the “why.” Why do you want to exercise? Are you trying to look better physically? Improve your golf game? Gain more stamina for activities you enjoy? Or just feel better in general? Having a reason to justify your efforts is foundational to long-term success.
2. Be specific. State exactly what you’re hoping to accomplish. Lose 10 pounds? Drop two dress sizes? Get down to a 32-inch waist? Cut your race time by one minute? Get more definition in your legs and arms?
3. Set a timetable. By when do you want to achieve your goal? In a month? Maybe two? Perhaps a year? What days can you commit to the gym? Will you go two days or three? Can you go each weekday morning before work?
4. Reward yourself. Celebrate small steps on the way to the big goal. Each week that you keep to your workouts, reward yourself with a small prize. A treat, a small purchase, a night out. Whatever it takes to keep you focused and feeling good about your progress.
