John van Dyck- Owner
John took over the ownership of the Champlin Snap Fitness in October of 2010. He has a passion for the fitness industry and believes strongly in the tremendous value proposition that Snap offers to people.
John will continue to work hard to service the existing members & develop the club so that members are inspired and enabled to reach their fitness goals.
Angela Baldwin- General Manager
Angela is our General Manager and is available to help you with whatever you need! She has been with Snap Fitness for 6 years, managing different locations and is also a Certified Personal Trainer. She loves working with members and gets great satisfaction from helping them achieve their goals! Outside of work, Angela enjoys running, being outside, and being with her family.
Angela is ready and able to answer any questions you may have about your membership or your health!

Mark and Anne Ebert
Anne and Mark Ebert have been Snap Fitness members since the very beginning. Always an active couple raising a family and working full time, Anne and Mark have made physical fitness a regular part of their lifestyle through outdoor activity and gym memberships. When the Champlin Snap Fitness came along they couldn’t beat the convenience, value, and ease of entrance. The friendly members and staff have made it a good get away from the chores of home.
Both Anne and Mark work out 4 to 5 times a week, taking advantage of all that Snap has to offer. Anne’s typical routine involves cardio on the arc trainer, 20 minutes at level 6 interval program and a few more minutes on the bike. She often works out in the free weight area as well as with the strength training equipment. In the summer she and Mark will ride their bikes to the club to get in cardio. Even though the Eberts do much of their cardio outside during the summer, they both understand the importance of continuing the strength training component in the club.
When the weather allows Mark likes to run outdoors 2 miles 4 times a week, or he will get his cardio in the club using the arc trainer, 30 minutes at level 3 interval program. Since working with Snap’s personal trainers Jay and Samuel, Mark has become more serious about his workouts, incorporating his new knowledge into his routine and teaching Anne some new things.
The Eberts both agree that their commitment to staying active has made them both healthier people. Anne says she “goes in her own zone” when working out to release the stresses of the day. The result? More energy, nice toning, increased endurance, and greater overall strength, and for Mark, a 12 pound weight loss!
Anne and Mark are wonderful role models to all wishing to bring their health to a higher level. We love the good humor, happiness, and sense of well being they bring to the Champlin Snap Fitness!
Joshua Schmitt
Joshua Schmitt initially joined the Anoka Snap Fitness in November 2006 because of its convenience and affordability. He joined to shed 20-25 lbs. gained since high school graduation 10 years ago. When the Champlin Snap opened Josh decided to transfer his membership-the Champlin center is practically in his back yard!
Josh has lost 20 lbs. so his current goals are more maintenance in nature. Wanting to continually confuse his muscles and use as many muscles as he can, he changes his routine up every 30-60 days. With one hour workouts the goal, he normally likes to begin with strength training and then do 20-30 minutes of cardio. Also, because Josh tries to get to the gym 3-4 times a week, he justifies to himself that he can indulge in sweets sometimes. So, he is trying to tighten up his diet as well.
Now, Josh plans on taking his fitness to the next level. He would someday like to take boxing lessons, and ALMOST signed up for the 2K Father Hennepin Days run in 2008 – perhaps he will push forward in 2009. Taking advantage of the new personal trainers at Snap is another option. In general, Josh strives to be a well-rounded individual in terms of mind, body, and spirit.
Besides weight loss Josh has experienced many other benefits including more confidence, energy, less illness and stress release. Josh and his wife have a one year old son and so far he has been able to keep up with him! “I hope that by being physically healthy I will continue to be able to! I hope that my physical health will be an inspiration to him one day,” reflected Josh.
Josh has some advice for fellow members: “In a word, persevere. For a person starting a new regime I recommend starting out maybe a couple days a week and working up. So many times, especially at this time of year, people start new regimes and quickly get burnt out. By working up I believe chances are lessened of burning out. Don’t be afraid to change up workout regimes every once in a while to not get bored, too. Also, exercise alone may not help one achieve results so be sure to follow a meal plan (notice I didn’t say diet!) in partnership with exercising.”
The real question is – Does Josh really press that much weight?!

SNAP is a continuation of my commitment over the past 20 years to exercise three or four times a week.
It was in 1985 when I first became a member of gym in New Hope - My daughters who were both in high school at the time were into exercising more than I was. So I decided to join a gym. There I participated in the classes that they provided and got acquainted with the weight machines. As I was then working downtown full time, every Tuesday and Thursday evening and Saturday mornings was my exercise schedule, and I stuck to it.
When I moved to Champlin I switched to another gym because it was close to my home, but 5 years later, along came SNAP, which is closer yet to my house. If it’s not pouring rain I usually walk to SNAP before I even get to my favorite machine, the arc trainer.
One big reason I decided that I must exercise is because my dad died of a heart attack in 1980, and I knew that it was one of the risk factors that would also affect my health. My only sister also died of a heart attack when she was 50 years old, and then I was totally committed to continuing my goal to have a healthy heart.
Never did I choose to exercise in order to lose weight, but I believe, because I have continually exercised over 20 years, my weight has remained very stable. I have also been very careful to eat properly – I love lots of fruits and veggies, oatmeal, chicken and fish and other healthy foods that have fiber. My goal is to remain healthy so I can skip all those medicines that people have to take every day as they get older – in order to keep going.

James Spates
James is a very special member at the Champlin Snap Fitness. As our very first member, he truly exemplifies dedication and hard work! He has lost 23 pounds since joining Snap Fitness. How has he accomplished this feat? – through consistent attendance, conscious eating habits, a “stick to it” attitude, and very importantly, a specific workout plan.
His 4 a.m. workouts really consist of using all of what Snap Fitness has to offer - cardio, strength training, free weights, the exercise ball and his personal website. He splits his days into “LEG DAYS” and “ARM DAYS”. For example, on LEG DAY James does 30 – 45 minutes on an arc trainer, 20 -30 minutes on the Woodway treadmill and then does specific leg work on the strength equipment. On ARM DAY he goes 45 minutes on the arc and then uses free weights one arm day and strength equipment the next arm day. When he hit a plateau with his weight, he didn’t give up, he kept at it!
Taking part in the SNAP TO IT Fitness Challenge was fun for James. “I loved it,” he said. In fact, James was the very first to finish the cross country trek!!
James’s dedication to his personal health and wellness is an inspiration to us all!
