A year ago I was diagnosed with Osteopenia. I was told by my doctor that at age 34 I could reverse the bone loss by changing my diet and by exercising. If I did nothing, I could be in a wheelchair by the age of 40. Well that was the scare that I needed. I did have some extra pounds that I could stand to lose however that was not my goal. My goal was to build up the bone that I had lost so I didn't end up with full blown osteoporosis at a young age. In January I heard about a Boot Camp that was starting up. I reluctantly joined not sure if I would be able to handle such intense workouts but I would try. That was the beginning the rest of my life. After introductions on night one, the BC instructor (Tiffanie Gillespie) asked what my goal was. I said I wanted to continue to eat cookies and ice-cream every night and maintain my weight, just not gain any. I did want to strengthen my bones too but didn't get into it that night.
The thought of changing my unhealthy eating habits did not even come into play at that time. What can I say, I like food and unhealthy food at that. Tif said I needed a goal so we set my weight loss goal at 10lbs. She also said that night "baby steps." You need to take baby steps. You can't just jump right in and change everything all at once or you will set yourself up to fail.
That was the best advice anyone has ever given me. Once I started to lose weight and see the difference in my appearance I then wanted to eat better. I still struggle with a healthy diet but the changes I have made like cutting out soda and scaling back from whole milk to 1% to name a few that have really made a difference. I can now say I don't eat cookies and ice-cream every night as part of my diet, now they are a "treat".
When Boot Camp ended I then joined Snap Fitness CG to continue this path to a better me. Since January 2010 to today I can proudly say I have lost 30 lbs and have gone from a size 18 to a size 7
